Nashville sits upon the Cumberland River, sourced from the Appalachian Mountains. Franklin is also home to many yearly festivals, including the Main Street Festival, the Wine Down Main Street Festival, Pumpkinfest and Dickens of a Christmas which attracts nearly 50, visitors annually. Notwithstanding the enchanting natural scenery and quaint small-town feel, Townsend also boasts a plethora of outdoor activities, local shopping, festivals and recreational activities. Townsend is a fantastic place for natural observations, from beautiful flowers and trees blooming in the spring and the appearance of myriad forest wildlife and birds in the summer, to beautiful hiking trails in the colder months.

Tellico Plains offers a multitude of outdoor activities within the nearly , acres of the Cherokee National Forest, including biking, boating, fishing, swimming, camping, hiking and kayaking. Similarly to Townsend, Tellico Plains is a fantastic location for nature-watching. The town is also home to Bald River Falls, a magnificent waterfall flowing over feet. It is located in the middle of the Great Valley of East Tennessee and sits upon the convergence of three rivers. Amidst this beautiful natural environment resides modern, hip downtown Knoxville, with incredible restaurants, unique galleries, festivals, concerts and museums.

Indeed, the city was founded nearly 20 years before Tennessee became a state in the union. Jonesborough proves to be a popular tourist destination, due both to its quaint small-town ambiance and its historical ranking and buildings. Brought back memories and gave me insight to things not aware of in a few of the towns. Dandridge HAS to be on this list! TVA built a Dike to save the town from flooding. Downtown is packed with wonderful and unique shops and an ancient courthouse that is still used. Just got back from a vacation in TN. It was a blast. I loved Pigeon Forg, Gatlinburg and Chattanooga.

Greeneville was an awesome experience staying at the General Morgan. So many people buzzing around for such a small tow. Went to the car museum and talked to Kent.

Ok, so the picture in the beginning is from Dandridge, TN. Also you can swim, visit a cave, and have excellent roads for riding a motorcycle. Gatlinburg is nice, alot to do but VERY crowded all the time, Townsend is so nice, not alot to do but def one of my favorite places to relax, Pigeon Forge is another jam packed tourist attraction.

Murfreesboro, Franklin,Cleveland and any city in Shelby County are not small towns. Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge are always crowded with tourists.

Try to get around in these cities. It can be a nightmare!! Thanks for your insight. Forge made this list. We are heavily filled with tourist and the traffic here is atrocious. It can take nearly 2hrs on a busy summer weekend just to get from Sevierville to Gatlinburg on Folly Parton Pkwy.
