New Zealand White rabbits are easily distinguished by their relatively large and solid bodies covered in dense white fur, their upstanding white ears, and their red eyes.

New Zealand Whites have become the poster child of the Easter season and are often depicted as being the Easter Bunny. They were destined for the meat and fur trade even at their inception, and fate has not been much kinder with their widespread use in laboratories. However, as with many animals bred to be slaughtered or tested on, the New Zealand White Rabbit has a cheerful and friendly disposition.

They are affectionate, intelligent, and one of the easier breeds to teach tricks. These factors make the New Zealand White an ideal pet choice, as unlike many of the other rabbit breeds, they are less likely to be standoffish and aggressive.

If you are interested in showing your New Zealand White Rabbit, here are some of the characteristics you should be looking for:. Showing rabbits can be a lot of fun, but even if your New Zealand White isn’t a champion, they are sure to be a delightful pet and a quiet and gentle companion. My three rabbits gave gave birth to 28 bunnies and they all died after five days what could have been the problem?

I am starting to breed and raise White New Zealand Rabbits. Information is important to me. I have a NZW rabbit named Lucky and he is years old, he’s getting lonely without a rabbit companion while I’m at my part time job, I’m getting another bunny and would like to know compatible breeds that can live with New Zealand Whites.

I have a Newzelan Red and he is very scared of me he is 1 and he has not been handled in his life I try to touch him and he just runs the opposite way of me. And he is currently not eating. I have just a regular white rabbit. I don’t think it’s NZW. I found a small New Zealand rabbit. It’s very hot in central california during the summer. I put it it my large chicken cage. I gave it fresh water and greens, with a couple of blackberries and a slice of apple. It’s cage is covered and under a large tree.

My question is, what temp is the max for this kind of rabbit? Is there anything extra I should do, to properly care for this cute little rabbit? I searched many web sites, however none mentioned temp.

Thank you for any assistance offered. Not eat dog or cat have u ever eatin at a chinese resturant or barito joint in the bad side of town. Trust me its not beef or chicken. The best burito i had was from a place that closed 2 weeks later they caught them dumping dog carcus into the dumpster across the street.

If anyone in california close to napa has bucks that are New zealand white rabbits please e-mail me christianalitzza hotmail. I just purchased a new zealand white rabbit because my son fell in love with it. Our New Zealand White is almost 10 years old, she is truly the best pet we have ever had. Relaxed, funny, affectionate, very intelligent and a very intuitive companion. She is neat and clean, meticulous with her litter box and loves to play with children and adults.

We do not allow others to carry her for fear of injuries by inexperienced well meaning friends. Im getting two NZ babies next week for the show table!!! His tattoo will be MJ If you have any comments or suggestions on names please email me at meagan.

BVBlove yahoo. Thanks and good luck to everyone with their bunnnies!!! Just got my first ever NZ Rabbit. I never knew how smart these animals are until I got one. He’s simple sweet and fun to have as a pet.

I understand if ppl need to survive however, I don’t believe in torture so I am however against experimenting on these animals. Labs should stick with rats. I enjoyed this site very much with the pictures, captions, and espically the coments. I am a God fearing man and I love the Lord. In his book he tells me that all living things were put here for the benefit of Mankind. It tells me that if it benefits Mankind to eat the flesh of a rabbit then God bless them.

Likewise if it benefit Mankind to love and befriend a rabbit then God blesses them also. Thank you, and God bless all Rabbit Lovers. Had a NZ white bunny, loved it and am perfectly alright to feed my kiddos the nourishment the Lord has provided for us. Be glad, ladies that you love your pets as we are all glad to see you happy in those relationships you nurture. I do not see where we cannot have both.

When you are farming to survive, it is impossible to live without eating meat. Yes, it is true that some people are vegetarians and are ok, but usually these people do not have to work as hard as back-to-basic homesteaders, and I don’t think my family could live through the winter on the small amount of vegatables we grow in our garden. As for rabbits, they are the most unexpenseve, economical and healthy producers of meat.

AND, no one thinks cows are cute, why not? After all, they are, at least to me, and are animals with “feelings” too. Do you know how inhumanely they and meat chickens are treated on big farms?

When I drove across country, i passed many cow farms whose cows had no room to move, there were acres and acres of cows smashed together smothered their own waste.

If they died no one would even notice because they would not be able to fall, they were being held up by their neighbors. Do you eat the poultry, ham, and beef from the grocery store? Our rabbits live hundreds of times better that they, which is why I raise them.

We have the intestines and teeth of canines, not monkeys. And souls, unlike animals. Enjoy your pet rabbits, but remember not to pass judgements on others. All those comments about people eating the Rabbits: how about we eat parts of you and we will call it even!!!! It’s Wrong to eat them or use them for testing there so cute. As i do understand they breed like crazy and sometimes it has to be delt with i don’t like it though any animal should be able to live a full life and if we kill them it should go hand in hand with killing one of us as we breed like cray and should be delt with!!!!!

Hi Alex, i have many breeds of rabbits, and a few have been rescued bunnies. Trying to feed him was a pain as he used to attack our hands. He used to bite the younger children in the house and was so bad we were really planning on giving him up or having him put down he was that bad!

Instead i brought him with me everywhere and let him have free lay to my house. He usualy stayed in the living room and had his own nests etc. Instead of sitting on the chair, i sat on the floor, the rabbit used to come up to me in his own time. He had the garden to himself and he loved to jump around and was very hyper. He became very friendly indeed. He still doesn’t allow me to pick him up, but will allow me to stroke him and doesn’t attack when i go to feed him.

Hi, I have just been given a New Zealand White that was found a stray and the vet is not sure how old she is, she is fully grown though. She is a little skittish around us and wont really let us touch her, i was wondering if anyone has had experience with this as i would like to know if she will warm to us?

I’ve just got my nz. He’s 5 weeks old. He is the sweetest pet you can ever have! He is very clever and determined as to what he wants, and loves company. Hey, I am considering getting a new Zealand white, but I look at other breeds too. I also like the Champagne D’argent, and the californian, but I’d like some advice as to which one I should get. Just got a New Zealand for free.

I’m not that big into breeding or anything, but her dam and sire were champs, so maybe I’ll do a little showing and breed her Oh, and one more thing, my friend, Nina, has a Flemish Giant and I thought it was super adorable and stuff. Anyway, does anyone know anything about those kind of rabbits Oh and if anyone knows anything about the destroyed rabbit hutch that would be awesome too!

Thanks sooooo much to who ever answer me! I’m not sure Anyways, we have our rabbit hutch in the barn, and our mule broke the side! We had to move our rabbit into a different hutch Hey I’ve got two of those rabbits and they are sweet but very wild so be careful they can open the cage door. Ok so I have a NZW bunny and he is about 6 monthes old and he so cute and sometimes he wants to cuddles!

His name is Mickie.
