Strada has great hand-tossed pizza on the menu. Strada has gluten-free crust available as well as vegan cheese and Beyond Meatballs. They have a great rooftop area if the weather permits. Reservations are a good idea and you can order online if you prefer takeout. And now for a totally different kind of date night… Manicomio is a fun shop serving up excellent NY-Style pizza , great salads and awesome mozzarella sticks.

They also have some seriously awesome beer. They ferment their beer with different yeast strains to produce totally different profiles. White Labs recommends trying them side-by-side to truly compare.

We love the sausage pizza house tomato sauce, hot Italian sausage, fire-roasted pepper and onion, garlic, mozzarella, provolone, parmesan and their mushroom pizza fire-roasted mushroom medley, leek pesto, herbed ricotta, fontina, pecorino. This vegetarian cafe located on Wall Street in downtown Asheville has a great little pizza menu.
We love the midnight mushroom pesto, mozzarella, mushroom medley, garlic, walnuts and balsamic reduction. Laughing Seed also has vegan cashew mozzarella cheese available as well as gluten-free crust. You can reserve a table here or order online if you prefer a night in.
Downtown Asheville is awesome because there are so many local spots— like the places we mentioned above fancy upscale pizza, NY style pizzeria and a vegetarian cafe. And now we are moving on to a taproom with pub grub, pool tables and pizza! Their pizzas are New York style and they offer soy cheese as an alternative.
They also serve traditional entrees and pasta, labeling their menu with gluten-free and vegan items. Connected to Strada, grab a late-night drink at The Social Lounge, which is also one of our top Asheville brunch spots. Tucked into a strip along Biltmore Ave. Manicomio Pizza is nothing like its surroundings — in a good way.
With less of a city and more of a hometown feel, head up to the counter to place your order. Choose pizza by the slice or pick from their hearty pie sizes. Pair your pizza with a local craft brew, and then grab a seat inside or out. Or, sit at the counter along the windows to people watch. Manicomio has the best vegan pizza in Asheville too — one of which is the AsheVegan.
They use local vegan cheese not the overly processed gross stuff that you tend to find at the grocery store. Along with vegan options, find a small — somewhat underwhelming — gluten-free pizza crust. We especially appreciate the vegan dessert choices including a vegan Dare cheesecake. Plus, when many Asheville restaurants close on Mondays and Tuesdays, Manicomio stays open 7 days a week.
Of course, you can grab pizza to-go. This one reminds us the most of one of our favorite places back in CT called Village Pizza. Located in the same plaza as the Fresh Market and across the street from Ingles on Merrimon, Family Pizzeria features huge Italian subs with waffle fries, pizza, and calzones. Select from delicious and classic specialty pizzas or build your own with generous toppings.
Think full-sized kalamata olives, chunks of artichokes, giant mushrooms, and fresh spinach. Enjoy a local craft beer and a slice of cake in the dimly lit dining room filled with charming yellow holiday lights. Listed in no particular order, because, they are all so tasty.
The original location on Merrimon Ave is home to a theater with weekly screenings of movies suitable for the whole family. Oh wait, White Labs is a local yeast grower and supplier to most of the local breweries. The space is small so we suggest reservations or arriving early, especially in the summer months.
Located at Charlotte Street. Mellow Mushroom — Who does not smile when they see Mellow Mushroom. Located conveniently in downtown Asheville, it is great for outdoor eating and people watching in the summer. Located at 50 Broadway Street.
