The spacious lawns facing the East River and wood benches dotted throughout the park are some of the best spots to enjoy the majestic fireworks display. You may have noticed this park in Men in Black , where the Unisphere is destroyed by a flying saucer.
In addition to its appearance on the big screen, the park is a great spot to enjoy one of the biggest shows of the year – the 4th of July Fireworks.
This cultural event features live Taiko drum performances, a traditional Japanese chorus, a Japanese folk dance, and a tea ceremony. Another great and unique way to celebrate the 4th of July is to hop on a fireworks cruise.
You will also get an amazing view of the Statue of Liberty – one stone with two birds! Sunset cruise from Gantry Plaza State Park. Facing the East River above which the fireworks will be set off, the FDR Drive in Manhattan is another excellent spot for this summer spectacular, with entry points at East 23rd, East 34th, and East 42nd Streets.
The northern part of the road is often less busy, so keep walking, and you will find fences and walls that you can climb on for unobstructed views of the fireworks. Note that police will be checking bags at all entry points, so pack light and only the essentials. Also, consider leaving a few minutes early to avoid getting stuck in the traffic when everyone tries to get out after the show.
